Varroa mite infestation represents one of the greatest threats<\/strong> to honey bee health, honey production, and pollination services.<\/p>\n

Effective mite control will reduce colony losses and avoid potential spread of infectious disease among colonies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

There are different methods of controlling<\/strong> varroa mites infestation:<\/p>\n

– After treatment falls<\/p>\n

– Natural mite falls<\/p>\n

– Sugar shake<\/p>\n

– Alcohol\/soap wash<\/p>\n

– Ether roll<\/p>\n

– Drone cells assessment<\/p>\n

The following table describe the infestation <\/strong>used for each method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I order to determine when a colony needs treatment and to evaluate treatment<\/strong> the next inputs must be taken into consideration:<\/p>\n

– the life cycles<\/strong> of both the honey bee colony and the mite<\/p>\n

– the number of mites<\/strong> present in the colony at any point in time<\/p>\n

– tactics<\/strong> to control mites (rotation of chemical products, drone brood frames removal, requeening)<\/p>\n
